On the day that you were born, Ryker, it was freezing cold and rainy. Mommy and daddy had a great date the day before you made your grand entrance. We went to the movies, out to dinner, went shopping, and then we went to the hospital and waited for mommy to go into active labor. Your doctor that delivered you took great care of mommy, because getting you out into the world took 18 very long hours. From the moment I saw you, Ryker, every single second of pain was worth it.
Ryker, you are so happy. You constantly want to make sure that I am happy, you ask me all the time, "Mommy you mad or happy". Usually I'm happy, but since you're a rotten two year old there are times that I answer, 'I'm mad, Ryker'. If I answer that I'm mad, sad, or hurt you offer me a hug and a big juicy kiss to 'feel beee ter'... I love that you are so compassionate.
I love how much you love your big brother and baby sister! You tell me daily that Fox is your best friend, and Bell is your princess. You are often so serious and very determined to do what you want to do, I have no worries about you being able to take care of yourself one day.
When you were about four months old we went through some very scary times with your health. For whatever reason you were not gaining any weight, in fact you were rapidly loosing weight. We tried every formula, mommy's milk had dried up due to stress, nothing we fed you helped. Every single oz. of food we'd give you, you would throw it up. I was so very frustrated and worried. The medicine that the doctors had you on made you into a zombie baby, you were not your happy self. SO, one day Great Great Grandmother Peggy told me about goats milk. After researching it and nearing the end of the road with our formula options, mommy bought some raw goats milk from a goat farmer in NC. I brought it home, pasteurized it myself, and froze it. From the very first bottle you drank you never once threw up. You gained 4 pounds in one week (putting you at 15 pounds)!!! Ryker I want you to know that you must ALWAYS listen to the promptings of the spirit and the wise advice of your elders. If Great Great Grandmother Peggy didn't give mommy sound wise advice, you probably would've ended up with a feeding tube, or worse. I will always remember those scary days, and feel much gratitude for the Goat farmer in NC.
On your blessing day, you were blessed with knowledge, wisdom, the ability to make the just decision. LOVE, ability to show love to others. You were blessed with the power of discernment, to know good from evil. FAITH. You, if you live faithfully, will have special experiences that will bring you close to people around the world. You will be a blessing to friends, a source of information, and leader in your community. A good missionary. You will be a great strength to your family. You will be responsible for sharing your strength with others.
Sweet boy, YOU must live worthily to obtain all that has been (and will be) promised to you. Mommy and Daddy can only help you get so far in your journey through this life. Trust in the plan of Salvation, our Savior, Jesus Christ, knows you and walks with you through the trials of this life. Allow his atonement to be a focal point in your day to day existence. Always, always, always be kind- never allow someone to take away your power to be Christ like. Justice is not ours to inflict upon others, but rather, show mercy.
I know you have been prepared for a great a marvelous work in our Father's kingdom, but you must put on your work boots and get dirty. Don't ever feel like you've done 'enough', there is always more work to be done for others'.
So, sweet birthday boy, enjoy today! One day, when you're older, I hope you read this and feel how much I adore you. Thank you for being part of our family, you make me complete.
